Latvia's first floating solar plant has recently reached grid connection. With a total capacity of 2.19 MW and powered by Sungrow FPV's system solution, the project is set to play a key role in diversifying the country's energy structure once it enters full operation.

This project is built on an unused freshwater pond inside an industrial park. To navigate around bridge structures within the water body, the engineering team carefully mapped out the array configuration and anchoring plan to avoid the bridge and its supports. A dual-beam structure with specially designed rail-mounted brackets was implemented to keep the solar modules stable and secure. Latvia's harsh winters bring frequent heavy snow, and the system's resilience against high snow loads is underpinned by sufficient buoyancy reserve. By analyzing local snow load data and prioritizing an optimal buoyancy-to-weight ratio, the team fine-tuned the system design to provide adjustable buoyancy per unit area, guaranteeing reliable flotation performance under all conditions.

The PV array is arranged in a dual-row layout with an optimized tilt angle to maximize energy output. Upon commissioning, the floating facility is projected to produce up to 3 million kWh per year. In addition to making productive use of otherwise idle pond space and promoting sustainability, the project will alleviate strain on the industrial park's power supply and raise the proportion of clean energy consumed locally.

Latvia's solar market is in the early stages of development, offering considerable growth potential. In response, the country has introduced the "Procedure Law for the Construction of Energy Supply Chains Necessary for Promoting Energy Security and Autonomy" in recent years to boost renewable energy output. Going forward, Sungrow FPV will allocate additional resources to strengthen its local footprint, offering customers dependable floating PV solutions that build trust and deliver tangible value—infusing fresh momentum into Latvia's emerging renewable energy landscape.
