The 2023 Jiangsu Offshore PV Technology Seminar took place in Nanjing on April 13, with Wu Weiwu, Deputy General Manager of Sungrow FPV, as an invited keynote speaker. He joined industry experts in exploring the province's offshore PV policies, technology pathways, and growth outlook.

Jiangsu Province rolled out its 14th Five-Year Plan for Renewable Energy Development this June, which calls for orderly offshore PV deployment and accelerated "PV+" integration during the plan period. The Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration projects that the province will achieve substantial progress in large-scale offshore solar development by 2025, with notable results by 2027.

Industry experts noted that offshore PV is still at an early stage, with key obstacles including the absence of operational standards, limited regulatory precedents, and a shortage of specialized installation vessels. Although early efforts have shown promise, advancing the sector will require concentrated research and development efforts to overcome technical barriers.

"Offshore floating PV is up against significant hurdles in both reliability and cost," said Wu Weiwu. "To overcome these, we need to focus our research and development efforts on wave-resistant design for multi-module platforms under harsh sea conditions, improving the durability of critical floating PV components, and advancing anchoring systems and component designs for multi-module platforms."

In the context of the "dual carbon" goals, offshore solar projects represent a new approach to resource development that naturally outperforms onshore installations in environmental terms. They play a critical role in increasing electricity supply for coastal regions, driving renewable energy growth in coastal provinces, and supporting the national "dual carbon" agenda. Sungrow FPV will keep engaging in offshore PV technology breakthroughs and continue its steady progress in the years ahead.
