Sungrow FPV's anchoring system design methodology has recently been validated and verified by DNV following a stringent assessment. This milestone establishes the world's first anchoring design approach that fully complies with DNVGL-RP-0584—the recognized recommended practice for floating PV system design, development, and operation.

Floating PV plants offer a valuable advantage: they don't take up land, making them one of the most promising PV applications after ground-mounted and rooftop systems. Yet worldwide, there is still a lack of mature design methods or standards for anchoring systems in floating PV, and several projects have already suffered failures due to anchoring issues. This underscores the urgent need for a systematic, science-based design approach—to ensure precision, prevent accidents, and support the healthy growth of the floating PV sector.

The Statement of Compliance verifies that Sungrow FPV's anchoring system design approach—covering design principles, procedures, and safety considerations—is fully aligned with DNV's recommended practice. This methodology can be flexibly adapted to meet the unique requirements and local environmental conditions of different floating PV projects.

According to DNV's 2021 Energy Transition Outlook, the solar PV market is set to grow by a factor of 20 during the forecast period—with floating PV expected to be one of the fastest-growing segments. Current global floating PV capacity is estimated at over 3 GWp, and industry insiders predict it will reach 10 GWp by the end of 2025. A World Bank study further highlights the enormous potential, estimating that man-made reservoirs alone could host more than 4 TWp of floating PV capacity.

"The floating solar market is expanding at a rapid pace, spreading from Asia to Europe and beyond," commented Prajeev Rasiah, Executive Vice President of DNV Energy Northern Europe. "To sustain this momentum, DNV will draw on its deep expertise across both PV and water resource management, integrating the two to improve the safety and reliability of floating solar installations."

"Sungrow FPV offers bespoke anchoring design services adapted to various water conditions. With our methodology now fully aligned with DNVGL-RP-0584—covering design, development, and operational requirements—we can ensure the long-term reliability and stability of floating PV anchoring systems," said Tia Qin, Regional Director at Sungrow FPV. "We are grateful for DNV's partnership in reaching this milestone. Moving forward, we will deepen our cooperation to deliver integrated one-stop design services that support the successful construction and safe operation of floating PV projects."
