On the morning of November 9, the 192 MWp Cirata floating photovoltaic power plant in Indonesia achieved full-capacity grid connection. Indonesian President Joko Widodo attended the grid connection ceremony and delivered a speech. The project is located on the Cirata hydropower reservoir in West Java, Indonesia. It is the world's first floating PV project in a 100-meter-deep water area, featuring a water depth of 100 meters, a water level fluctuation of 18 meters, and an underwater elevation difference of 50 meters. The project was constructed by PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited, with Sungrow FPV providing the complete floating PV system solution. Upon commercial operation, it is expected to generate 300,000 MWh of electricity annually, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 214,000 tons and providing clean electricity to approximately 50,000 households

The Cirata reservoir presents a challenging underwater environment with steep slopes, thick silt deposits, and submerged forest remnants. As anchoring is vital to the floating PV system's stability and reliability, Sungrow FPV's engineering team developed custom high-capacity anchor blocks suited to the specific geological conditions—enhancing load-bearing performance, preventing anchor slip, and significantly speeding up installation. Despite the 100-meter depth demanding a large mooring radius, the project's water footprint was constrained by red-line boundaries. Through rigorous simulation and verification of every anchor block, the team finalized an anchoring design that maximizes usable area and boosts overall system capacity.

The combination of extreme water depth, wide water level variations, and steep elevation changes posed risks of stress concentration and excessive array displacement. Through carefully optimized system design, strategic material choices, and advanced simulation, the engineering team successfully overcame these challenges. The design has been validated and approved by third-party certification bodies including DNV, RINA, and INNOSEA, along with Indonesia's Dam Safety Commission (DSC).

As a designated Indonesian National Strategic Project (PSNs), the Cirata floating PV plant is the country's largest floating solar installation and marks a critical milestone in advancing clean energy technology and accelerating Indonesia's energy transition. Going forward, Sungrow FPV remains committed to contributing its product excellence, technical expertise, and premium services to help Belt and Road countries expand their clean energy sectors—delivering lasting green energy benefits to local communities.
