Kickoff Meeting for Wind Load Standard on Floating Solar Systems Successfully Held
On December 27, the kickoff meeting for the preparation of the "Calculation and Testing Methods for Wind Loads on Floating Power Generation Systems" standard, led by Sungrow Floating PV and administered by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems (SAC/TC90), was successfully held in Hefei. The meeting brought together 32 industry experts from 19 participating organizations. As the first industry standard for wind load calculation, it will provide a scientific basis and technical guidance for the structural design of floating solar products, environmental load calculations, and anchoring system solutions.

On behalf of the leading organization, Dr. Wu Weiwu, CTO of Sungrow Floating PV, delivered a welcome speech. He emphasized that wind resistance design is a key factor in ensuring the safety and reliability of floating solar systems. Improving the safety and reliability of floating power generation systems has been an ongoing pursuit for Sungrow Floating PV. He further stated that establishing industry standards reflects a deep understanding of industry development patterns, promotes the healthy growth of the sector, and serves as a commitment to society and customers. Moreover, it ensures high-quality product and system design, as well as enhanced service levels.
The "Calculation and Testing Methods for Wind Loads on Floating Power Generation Systems" standard aims to define the basic parameters and methodologies for wind load calculations, covering factors such as basic wind pressure, wind pressure coefficients, height variation coefficients, and array area coefficients, along with their respective calculation formulas. Accurate wind load calculation is a crucial foundation for the structural design and optimization of floating power generation systems, ensuring both structural safety and economic feasibility.
During the meeting, experts engaged in in-depth discussions on the draft standard, establishing the framework, key technical content, and follow-up work plans, laying a solid foundation for the standard’s development. Moving forward, Sungrow Floating PV, in collaboration with the participating organizations, will actively drive the formulation and implementation of this standard. With a scientific and pragmatic approach, the team will carefully consider industry realities and development needs to ensure the standard is scientific, reasonable, and feasible, contributing to the healthy and stable growth of the floating solar industry.
